Zsolt Lőw [ ˈʒolt løːv ] (born April 29, 1979 in Budapest ) is a former Hungarian football player and current football coach . In his playing career he was mainly used as a left defender, but also acted in the left midfield or as a central defender. He is Thomas Tuchel's assistant coach at Paris Saint-Germain in the French Ligue 1 .
Career
As a player
He began his football career with the Budapest club Újpest FC . At the age of 17 he made his debut in the professional team at the UEFA Cup game against Club Bruges . In 2002 he won the Hungarian Cup with Újpest FC .
In 2002 he moved to the Bundesliga for Energie Cottbus . Here he played 31 games and relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga with Cottbus at the end of the season . Lőw stayed with the Lausitzers and completed a total of 48 second division games in the two following seasons, scoring five goals. For the 2005/06 season Lőw moved to league rivals Hansa Rostock and played eleven games there.
After only one season he left the Hanseatic League and joined the regional league team TSG 1899 Hoffenheim . He was used eleven times and rose with the Badeners as second in the table in the 2nd Bundesliga. In 2008 he was promoted to the Bundesliga with Hoffenheim. For the second half of the 2008/09 season, Lőw moved to 1. FSV Mainz 05 . After his contract expired in 2011, he ended his professional career because he was no longer able to cope with the physical strain.
He played 25 times for the Hungarian national football team and scored one goal.
As a trainer
Lőw began his coaching career a year later as Peter Zeidler's assistant coach at FC Liefering in the Regionalliga West, the third level in Austrian football. With the Lieferingern he rose to the second-rate first division . In 2014 he moved to FC Red Bull Salzburg , with which FC Liefering is connected as a farm team , and became Oliver Glasner's successor as assistant coach to the newly appointed coach Adi Hütter , who led Salzburg to the new championship.
For the 2015/16 season, Lőw moved as assistant coach to the German second division club RB Leipzig and rose to the Bundesliga with the team in 2016.
In the summer of 2018 he was hired as assistant coach to Thomas Tuchel from Paris Saint-Germain . As assistant coach at PSG under Thomas Tuchel, he won the French Supercup twice, the French championship twice, the French Cup once and the French League Cup once.
