Jorane

Jorane (actually: Johanne Pelletier , born October 12, 1975 in Charlesbourg , Québec ) is a French-speaking musician from Canada . She found access to music very early on: she was already playing the piano at the age of five . She started playing the cello at the age of 19.

Life

During a trip to Haiti , she changed her official name from "Joanne" to "Jorane". She has had a son since 2006.

Characteristics of Jorane's music are experimental singing, individual and accomplished handling of the cello as well as syntheses of different styles - such as folk , jazz , rock or classical . Her texts are partly French or English , but sometimes also sequences of sounds that assign the status of a musical instrument to the human voice . She is characterized by the ability to accompany her cello playing with her own singing .

In 2004 she presented a cover version of the disco hit I Feel Love on the album The You and The Now , which was written by Giorgio Moroder and sung by Donna Summer . In the same year she presented a witch cello music for Halloween .

Jorane wrote the music for the dramatic love film A Sunday in Kigali ( Un dimanche à Kigali ) (2006) and won the Prix ​​Jutra in the category Best Film Music. She worked with Cristobal Tapia de Veer .
