Paul Janet

Paul Alexandre René Janet (born April 30, 1823 in Paris , † October 4, 1899 there ) was a French philosopher.

Janet completed his school days at the Lycée Saint-Louis and at the École normal supérieure . In 1848 he got a job as a lecturer in moral philosophy at the University of Bourges and three years later he moved to the University of Strasbourg in the same position . In 1857 Janet accepted a position at the Collège Louis le Grand in Paris and worked there as a lecturer in logic.

In 1864 he was entrusted with a teaching position as a professor of philosophy at the Sorbonne and in the same year the Académie des sciences morales et politiques accepted him as a member. When Janet published his Philosophy du bonheur in 1870 , this book received public praise and medal.

In 1880 he became a member of the Accademia dei Lincei in Rome. The Janet Rock in Antarctica bears his name.
