Roland Maywald
Roland Maywald (born July 7, 1948 ) is a former German badminton player .
Maywald is one of the most internationally successful German badminton players. He comes from one of the most famous German badminton families. As a functionary, his father Siegfried Maywald had a lasting impact on German badminton sport. Ian Maywald continued the family tradition in the third generation in the new millennium. Roland Maywald himself won his first international laurels in 1970 when he won a bronze medal at the European Championships. In 1972 he won the European championship in men's doubles together with Willi Braun . In 1974 they were able to repeat this triumph. In 1976 they were eliminated in the semifinals and won bronze.
Maywald also won two bronze medals at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich , namely in men's doubles with Willi Braun and in mixed with Brigitte Steden . At that time it was a demonstration tournament and the first ever Olympic badminton tournament.
After his sports career Maywald worked as a teacher at the Integrated Comprehensive School in Bonn-Beuel . He lives in Sankt Augustin , has two children and has been chairman of the badminton Bundesliga club 1. BC Beuel since 1988 .
