Christian Hermann Walde

Christian Hermann Walde (born December 7, 1855 in Schneeberg , † December 15, 1906 in Warmbrunn ) was a German wood carver , sculptor and specialist book author.

Life

After attending elementary school in Schneeberg, Walde completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter and a sculptor. The wandering after his teaching led in u. a. to Karlsruhe , Milan and Vienna to continue training in his professions. In Vienna he was the foreman for the carving work in the new Catholic Church of St. Joachimsthal .

Back in Saxony , he attended the art and trade school in Dresden , which he completed with the examination to become a drawing teacher. On the occasion of the good test results, he was awarded the Saxon State Medal in silver.

In 1884 he was appointed teacher and later director of the newly founded college for wood turners and sculptors in Leisnig an der Mulde .

The royal Saxon government sent him to the world exhibitions in Brussels in 1897 and in Paris in 1900 .

The Saxon King Albert awarded him the title of professor in 1901 in recognition of his services.

In 1898 Walde was commissioned by the Prussian Ministry of Commerce to draw up an expert opinion on the establishment of a wood carving school in the Hirschberg / Silesia district . At that time he was director of the college for woodturners and carvers in Leipzig .

In 1899 the ministry commissioned him to draw up the construction plans for this facility and to prepare for construction. The school opened in 1901 and he became the founding director of the Bad Warmbrunn wood carving school , which he ran from its opening until his death in 1906.

family

Walde was married to Gertraud Walde. He had a son, Hans Walde, who was pastor at the Marienkirche in Leipzig - Stötteritz , and a daughter Gertrud Walde, a writer. The geologist Detlef Walde from Brasilia and the German politician Eberhard Walde are his great-grandchildren.
