Eberhard Walde

Eberhard Matthias Walde (born March 27, 1949 in Leipzig ; † December 16, 2011 in Salzwedel ) was a German politician ( Die Grünen ).

Life

Eberhard Walde was born in Leipzig. Shortly before the wall was built , he and his family fled to West Germany . After finishing school, Walde completed an apprenticeship as a car mechanic at Opel .

At the end of the 1970s, Walde was a member of the board of the Federal Association of Citizens' Initiatives Environmental Protection (BBU) . Walde was one of the organizers of the large Bonn demonstrations against retrofitting.

In 1980, Walde was one of the founders of the Green Party . In the party he belonged to the left-alternative spectrum. From 1983 to 1991 Walde was federal manager of the Greens. He led the federal election campaigns in 1983 and 1987.

In 1987 he campaigned against the planned census . Because of the call for the registration number to be removed from the census sheet, he and Roland Appel were initially sentenced to 50 daily rates for “calling for property damage” by the Bonn District Court; in the second instance the judgment was overturned in 1988 on payment of a fine .

Walde resigned from the party in 1991 out of disappointment with the course of adjustment to the established system.

Walde shifted his commitment and provided humanitarian aid in northern Iraq on behalf of the Swiss Caritas and for the Association for Humanitarian Aid and Development Cooperation (VEH) in Kosovo.

He returned to Germany in the late 1990s. He moved with his partner and son Felix Walde to Trebel in Wendland in Lower Saxony , where he ran a shop for regional products. The commitment to the planned nuclear waste repository in Gorleben remained important to him. Among other things, he was the secretary of the Lüchow-Dannenberg e. V.

On December 16, 2011, Eberhard Walde died of a heart attack at the age of 62.

Walde is a great-grandson of Christian Hermann Waldes . His brother is the geologist Detlef Walde . He has a daughter and a son.
