Aljona Wiktorowna Sidko ( Russian Алёна Викторовна Сидько ; born September 20, 1979 in Krasnoyarsk , Siberia ) is a former Russian cross-country skier .

Career

Sidko started in December 1999 for the first time in the World Cup in Sappada and finished there in 35th place in the 7.5 km freestyle. She got her first World Cup points in March 2001 in Kavgolovo with the 26th place over 15 km freestyle. At the beginning of the 2001/02 season she came in second place in Kuopio and Davos with the relay for the first time in the World Cup podium. In the individual World Cup she achieved seven places in the points and thus reached 45th place in the overall World Cup. In the 2002/03 season she came in 19 individual goals in the World Cup, 14 times in the points and thus finished 25th place in the overall World Cup and 15th place in the Sprint World Cup at the end of the season. Her best placement of the season in the World Cup singles was seventh in the sprint in Clusone and in Linz . In January 2003 she was second at the World Cup in Asiago together with Natalja Korosteljowa in the team sprint. At the beginning of the 2003/04 season she won third place in Düsseldorf together with Yevgenia Chachina in the team sprint and second place in the sprint. In the further course of the season she took third place with the relay in Beitostølen and came under the top ten three times in the World Cup singles. In April 2004 she won two Continental Cups in Murmansk and at the end of the season she finished 20th in the overall World Cup and 16th in the Sprint World Cup. After three placements in the points at the beginning of the 2004/05 season , she won the Alpine Cup in Davos. This was followed by a further five results in the individual World Cup and at the end of the season 29th place in the overall World Cup and 19th place in the Sprint World Cup. At the highlight of the season, the Nordic World Ski Championships 2005 in Oberstdorf , she and Julija Tschepalowa won bronze in the team sprint. She also took 13th place in the sprint. In March 2005, she became the Russian sprint champion. After third place in Düsseldorf together with Natalja Korosteljowa in the team sprint at the beginning of the 2005/06 season , she took two wins in the Scandinavian Cup and won her only World Cup race in the sprint in Nové Město . At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , she won the bronze medal in the sprint. She also achieved sixth place in the team sprint. In March 2006 she became Russian champion over 10 km. She finished the season in 23rd place in the overall World Cup, 16th in the Sprint World Cup and eighth in the overall ranking of the Scandinavian Cup. In the 2006/07 season she came in the points 15 times in the World Cup. She came 29th in the Tour de Ski 2006/07 . At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2007 in Sapporo , she finished 30th in the sprint, 27th place in the 30 km mass start race and seventh place with the relay. At the end of the season she was Russian champion over 30 km and reached 28th place in the overall World Cup and 23rd place in the Sprint World Cup. After taking a break in the 2007/08 season , she won 26th place in the overall World Cup in the 2008/09 season . She finished 17 in the points in the World Cup, including 19th place at the World Cup final in Falun . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Liberec in 2009 , she came 43rd in the sprint and 11th in the team sprint. On December 26, 2009, Sidko tested positive for the blood doping agent EPO in a competition in Russia . After Sidko decided not to open the B sample , it was officially banned by the Russian Ski Association for doping for two years at the end of January 2010. After the ban she started in the 2012/13 season in the Eastern Europe Cup . Her best result was the 12th place in the sprint in Vershina Tjoi .
