Werschina Tjoi ( Russian Вершина Тёи ; Khakas пазы Тӧӧ , Töö Pazy ) is an urban-type settlement in the Republic of Khakassia ( Russia ) with 3756 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The town is located in southern Siberia, in the western central part of Khakassia in the comb area of there upland character bearing and Taiga covered Abakangebirges , over 130 line kilometers southwest of the Republic capital Abakan . It is located a little below a pass height in the source area of ​​the river Tjoja , which flows in a southeastern direction to the pocket type not far from its mouth in the left Yenisei tributary Abakan . The name of the settlement literally stands for the summit of the Tjoja .

The settlement belongs to the Askis Rajon and is about 65 kilometers to the west from its administrative seat Askis .

history

In 1930 an iron ore deposit ( magnetite ) was discovered in the area of ​​today's Werschina Tjoi . The miners' settlement emerged when the development of the deposit began in 1957. As early as 1959, the status of an urban-type settlement was given. In 1965, after the railway line had been completed , iron ore mining began.

Economy and Infrastructure

The building company is the iron ore mine directly on the northeastern edge of the settlement, which has belonged to Evrazruda , which is now controlled by the Evraz Group , since 2003 . The ore is enriched on site and transported by rail to the steel works in Novokuznetsk in the Kuznetsk Basin for processing .

The Tjoja terminus, which was opened in 1965, is located near Vershina Tjoi, a 25-kilometer-long, single-track branch line electrified with 25  kV 50  Hz alternating current , which branches off the South Siberian Railway in Biskamscha . Road connection exists through the valley of Tom in the direction of Novokuznetsk in the neighboring Kemerovo Oblast , over a pass in the valley of the river Askis to Abakan and along the railway line to Biskamscha.
