Sorsk ( Russian Сорск ) is a city in the republic of Khakassia ( Russia ) with 12,143 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located in the eastern foothills of the Kuznetsk Alatau ( Batenjowback / Батенёвский кряж), about 100 km northwest of the republic capital Abakan . The climate is continental.
The city of Sorsk is administratively directly subordinate to the republic.
Sorsk located 6 km from the station Erbinskaja the completed in the 1920s railway Achinsk - Abakan away.
history
In 1937 a molybdenum ore deposit was discovered on the river Sora (Сора, also Соря / Zorya) , the mining of which began a little later. In 1940 the Dzerzhinsky miners' settlement was established in this context (named after the Soviet secret service official Felix Dzerzhinsky ). In 1966, the place received its current designation, derived from the name of the river, as a town.

economy
Molybdenum and copper mining and the production of concentrates of these metals determine the city's economy. There is also a building industry in the form of a brick factory.
