Bely Yar ( Russian Белый Яр ; Khakas Хуба чар ) is a village (selo) in the Republic of Khakassia ( Russia ) with 10 014 inhabitants (14 October 2010).
geography
The place is located in southern Siberia, in the middle of the steppes of the eastern central part of Khakassia, about 15 kilometers as the crow flies south of the republic capital Abakan on the right bank of the Yenisei tributary Abakan .
Bely Jar is the administrative center of Altaiski Rajons and the seat of the rural community Belojarskoje selskoje posselenije, which includes Bely Jar and the village of Kaibaly, 8 km northeast on the road to Abakan, with a population of almost 1,000.
history
The place was founded in 1848/1849 under the name (Ulus) Belojarski. In the years 1908 to 1912, the population increased considerably due to the arrival of resettlers from the central part of the Russian Empire , again in the 1930s during the collectivization of Soviet agriculture.
Initially, the village belonged to the Wolost Ust-Abakan , before it came to the newly founded Altaiski Rajon in 1944 , named after its original center Altai , a village a good 30 kilometers east on the left bank of the Yenisei. As early as 1945 (confirmed in 1951) the administrative headquarters were relocated to Bely Jar, which is more conveniently located in terms of traffic.
