Chernogorsk ( Russian Черногорск ) is a city in the Republic of Khakassia ( Russia ) with 72,147 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located north of the western Sayan Mountains , about 15 km northwest of the republic capital Abakan , a few kilometers off the left bank of the Yenisei . The climate is continental.
The city of Chernogorsk is administratively directly subordinate to the republic. The city also manages the urban-type settlement Prigorsk (Пригорск, 2,632 inhabitants), so that the total population of the administrative unit "Chernogorsk District" is 74,749 (2010).
Both Chernogorsk as well as Prigorsk and the surrounding coal mines have rail connections (freight traffic only) to Tasheba station of the South Siberian Railway Novokuznetsk - Abakan - Taischet, 15 km away from Chernogorsk ( Chernogorskije Kopi station ) . Moreover Chernogorsk is located on the highway M 54 , of Krasnojarsk to Mongolian leads limit.
history
Chernogorsk was created in 1936 through the amalgamation of several settlements that had arisen around several shafts in the Minussinsk coalfield since the beginning of coal mining in 1904 . The place name refers to coal mining (Russian чёрный / tschorny for black ).

economy
In addition to the coal industry by the largest Russian coal producer Siberian Coal Energy Company (Сибирская угольная энергетическая компания, СУЭК / Siberian Coal Energy Company, SUEK) with the shafts Chakasskaja (Хакасская) and Jenisseiskaja (Енисейская) and an open pit , are lightweight, textile - and the furniture industry as well as the construction industry.
