Andrejs Žagars , Russian А́ндрейс Жа́гарс (born October 16, 1958 in Chernogorsk , Russian Soviet Republic , Soviet Union ; † February 26, 2019 in Riga , Latvia ) was a Soviet and Latvian actor and theater manager.

Life

Born in Chernogorsk , Russia , Žagars grew up in Cēsis , Latvia , where his family had moved a year after he was born. Žagars graduated from the Latvian Music Academy Jāzeps Vītols in Riga in 1982 .

Žagars mainly starred in Soviet and Russian films. From 1996 to 2013 he was artistic director of the Latvian National Opera and also tried his hand as a theater director.
