Nadir's Big Chance , Peter Hammill's fifth solo album, was released from November 1st to 7th. Recorded December 1974 at Rockfield Studios, Monmouthshire. Mixed December 1974 at Trident Studios, London. According to the album cover text, Peter Hammill slips into his alter ego Rikki Nadir and plays his music: “… the beefy punk songs, the weepy ballads, the soul struts. This album is, more or less, what he plays and who he is; how could I deny him his simple say? “Despite the classic Van der Graaf Generator line- up, this album differs radically from previous VdGG with its mixture of calm ballads and aggressive songs, all of which are very short at 3 to 6 minutes. Albums, but also from the following albums of the reunited band. With this album Hammill is considered to be one of the pioneers of punk.
