At Leverkusen he also played in the Champions League . In 2002 he played three games for the national team . From 2007 he played again for TSV 1860 Munich in his hometown, now in the 2nd Bundesliga , and ended his playing career in the summer of 2014.
After his playing career, Bierofka took up the coaching career. Most recently he was head coach of TSV 1860 Munich until November 2019 and took over FC Wacker Innsbruck as head coach for the 2020/21 season .
Club career
youth
In 1985 Bierofka started playing football at SpVgg Feldmoching, for which his father Willi and his grandfather had already played. In 1993 he moved from the north of Munich to the south of the Bavarian capital. He played one season at SpVgg Unterhaching and in 1994 went to the youth department of FC Bayern Munich . In the spring of 1998 Bierofka made his first appearance for the amateur team in the Regionalliga Süd , from summer 1998 he was a regular player. By 2000, he was used 47 times for the second representation of FC Bayern and scored two goals.
1860 Munich
In the summer of 2000 Bierofka left FC Bayern and moved to Grünwalder Straße, a few hundred meters away. At TSV 1860 Munich he immediately became a regular player in the Bundesliga . By 2002 he played 55 league games for 1860, scoring seven goals. In addition, he was used in both qualifying games for the Champions League , he played five times in the UEFA Cup and five times in the DFB Cup .
Bayer Leverkusen
For the 2002/03 season, Bierofka moved to Bayer 04 Leverkusen . In the following two seasons he was used regularly; he was in 62 league games on the field and scored eleven goals. In the fall of 2004, he was thrown back by a herniated disc and took a three-month break. He came in the 2004/05 season on 16 missions and one goal, he was never in the starting line-up. During his three years at Bayer Leverkusen, in addition to his appearances in the league, he also made three appearances in the League Cup and eight in the DFB Cup, in which he scored two goals. In addition, Bierofka was used nine times in the Champions League and played once in the second team (one goal). In summer 2005 he left Leverkusen and moved to VfB Stuttgart .
VfB Stuttgart
After moving to Stuttgart, Bierofka was already in preparation for the 2005/06 season when he was replaced with a broken ankle in the friendly against AC Siena . Due to many complications and setbacks, he underwent twelve operations within half a year. It was not until March 25, 2006 that he played his first competitive game for VfB against his old club Bayer Leverkusen. This game was the only season appearance in the first team; in the second team he played six times in the second half of the season.
With the start of the 2006/07 season he was ready to go again after recovering from an injury. He won the German championship with VfB Stuttgart this season, but was only used twelve times. He was denied a goal during his time in Stuttgart. He was used three times in the DFB Cup, here he scored one goal. Bierofka played a total of 16 competitive games for VfB, only one of them over the full playing time.
Return to 1860
In the summer of 2007 he returned to 1860 Munich. In return, Christian Träsch moved to VfB, who had not played in the first team in 1860, but was to be promoted to national team in Stuttgart within the next two years.
Bierofka played 32 games in the 2nd Bundesliga in the 2007/08 season , scoring seven goals. In summer 2008 he replaced Danny Schwarz as team captain . In the following season he came only to eleven missions due to injury. In autumn 2008 he paused for two months after a disc operation. On February 22, 2009, he was substituted in the league game against MSV Duisburg with adductor problems and then played no game until the end of the season. In summer 2009 he was operated on again on the intervertebral disc. He also gave up the captain's armband; Benny Lauth was captain in the 2009/10 season . This season he was not in the TSV 1860 squad for any game. In preparation for the new 2010/11 season, Bierofka was reinstated after an almost 15 month break; Trainer Reiner Maurer also appointed him captain again. On August 14, 2010, he was substituted on in the DFB Cup game at SC Verl , making it his first competitive game after a 539 day break due to injury. Nine days later he was on the starting line-up for the season opener in the away game against VfL Bochum . He played 25 games in the 2010/11 season . In March 2011 he was operated on for the 19th time in his career.
Until the winter break of the 2011/12 season, he was always on the starting line-up, except for one game in which he was missing a yellow card. He scored five goals in those 18 games and set up three more. Mostly he was not used on the offensive side lane, but in the central defensive midfield. Even after the winter break he was part of the regular line-up of TSV 1860. In the 2012/13 season , he made 30 appearances in the 2nd Bundesliga; on the last days of the match he was absent due to tendinitis on his foot.
At the end of the 2013/14 season , Bierofka ended his playing career.
National team
Bierofka came to 22 appearances in the U-21 national team between 1999 and 2001 , in which he scored seven goals.
Daniel Bierofka was nominated in May 2002 by Rudi Völler for the provisional squad of the senior national team for the 2002 World Cup . He made his senior national team debut on May 9, 2002 when he was substituted on for the international match against Kuwait . A few days later he made his second appearance when he came on as a substitute for the game against Austria on May 18 and shortly thereafter marked the goal for the 6-2 final score. Bierofka was denied a place in the final World Cup squad. His last appearance in the DFB jersey was on August 21, 2002 in Bulgaria , where he was on the starting line-up.
Trainer
Various stations in 1860
After the end of his playing career, Bierofka became the coach of the U16s of TSV 1860. In February 2015, he succeeded Torsten Fröhling , who was the head coach of the first team, and coach of the second team.
On April 19, 2016, Bierofka took over the second division team of Lions, who were in 17th place in the table, from Benno Möhlmann, who was on leave, four game days before the end of the 2015/16 season . The Lions won their first three games under Bierofka, with which the team managed to stay ahead of the last game day. Since Bierofka did not have the required trainer license, he could only work as a trainer with special permission from the DFL . This expired on May 9, 2016. For the last game of the season against FSV Frankfurt he was followed by Denis Buschujew in office.
For the 2016/17 season, Bierofka took over the second team (U21) of the Lions playing in the fourth-class Bavarian Regional League .
On November 22nd, 2016, he again took over the first TSV 1860 team from Kosta Runjaic, who were in 14th place in the table after 13 match days, as interim coach until the winter break. Then he was part of the coaching staff of the new coach Vítor Pereira - in addition to his work as head coach of the second team - as an assistant coach. Under Bierofka, the lions took three points from three games. In the last game before the winter break, Denis Buschujew moved to the fore due to the lack of a coaching license - as in spring .
After the first team was relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga in the 2016/17 season and had not received the license for the 3rd division , Bierofka took over the head coach position. The team played in the fourth-class regional league Bayern and consisted essentially of players from the A-youth and the second team. On May 5, 2018, TSV 1860 München became champions in the Regionalliga with a 3-0 away win against FC Pipinsried . In the promotion games, the team met the south-west champions 1. FC Saarbrücken . After a 3-2 away win and a 2-2 win in front of their home crowd, TSV 1860 Munich rose to the third division .
In March 2019, Bierofka successfully completed his training as a soccer teacher at the Hennef sports school, which he had started in June 2018 .
After twelve years at the club, Bierofka asked for personal reasons to terminate his contract as head coach of the first team after the 14th matchday of the 2019/20 third division season .
Change to Austria
For the 2020/21 season, the German succeeded Thomas Grumser as trainer for the Austrian second division club FC Wacker Innsbruck .
