Vincenzo "Vince" Grella (born May 5, 1979 in Dandenong , Melbourne ) is a former Australian football player ; he played in the position of midfielder .

Grella, a son of Italian immigrants, began his career at Canberra Cosmos , after one season he moved to Carlton SC . In the 1998-99 season, the Australian moved to FC Empoli in the Italian Serie B . After a season in Tuscany , he switched to league competitor Ternana Calcio where he was unable to prevail. For the 2001/02 season Grella then returned to FC Empoli. In the first season he was able to celebrate promotion to Serie A. As a result, Grella played two seasons as a regular in Serie A before moving to FC Parma for the 2004/05 season, where he was in the regular squad until the end of the 2006/07 season. He completed the 2007/08 season for Torino , where he originally signed a three-year contract.

On August 26, 2008 he moved to the English Premier League for the Blackburn Rovers . Grella signed a four-year contract with the club where his compatriot Brett Emerton had already hired. The clubs involved agreed not to disclose the transfer fee, with press reports suggesting a sum in the vicinity of 3.5 to four million pounds. In the summer of 2012, his expiring contract was not extended.

After Grella initially couldn't find a new club and had kept himself fit in Italy with a personal trainer , he signed a contract with the Australian first division club Melbourne Heart in October 2012 until the end of June 2013. At the end of January 2013 Grella came to his first assignment for Heart, withdrew In the game, however, an injury and then announced his immediate end of career.

National team

In 2003, Grella made his debut for the Australian national team and has since played regularly. He was part of the Australian national team at the 2006 and 2010 World Cups .

Others

After the end of his active career, Vince Grella settled in Italy with his family. He is married to an Italian woman whom he met while at FC Empoli and has three children (two daughters, one son).
