Marieke van der Wal (born November 7, 1979 in Delft ) is a Dutch handball player .

Career

Marieke van der Wal began playing handball at Van der Voort / Quintus when she was young, where she played in the women's team from 1998. In 2003 she moved to V&L Geleen and two years later to the German Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund , where she signed a two-year contract. After the contract expired, the 1.83 meter tall goalkeeper went to Spain in 2007, where she first played for CB Elche and from 2009 for SD Itxako, with whom she won the championship in 2010. For the 2010/11 season she returned to the Bundesliga and stood between the posts at Frisch Auf Göppingen , which she left in December 2010 and moved to France for HAC handball. From the 2011/12 season she played at Cergy-Pontoise Handball 95. In the summer of 2014, she returned to HV Virto / Quintus.

Van der Wal has made 196 appearances for the Dutch national team so far . She participated in the 2010 European Championships and the 2011 and 2013 World Championships .
