René Taubenrauch (born January 31, 1974 in Erfurt ) is a former German speed skater over the long distances.

René Taubenrauch started for the SC Turbine Erfurt until 1989 , then for the Erfurt ice sports club . He was trained by Stephan Gneupel . Since 1987 he has been active in the youth sector in the GDR.

He gained his first international experience at the Junior World Championships in 1993 in Baselga di Pinè, where he finished fifth in the overall standings and first in over 5000 m. He made his debut in the Speed ​​Skating World Cup towards the end of the 1992/93 season in Inzell , where he was 26th over 5000 meters. A year later, he came seventh in the top ten for the first time at the World Cup final in Heerenveen over 5000 meters. Another year later in Inzell, finishing fourth, he missed the podium by just one place for the first time. In 1999 he only had to admit defeat to Ids Postma and Bart Veldkamp in a race over 5000 meters in Berlin and achieved his only podium finish. In the 1998/99 season he finished sixth in the overall ranking of the World Cup long distances.

Taubenrauch first started at the individual distance world championships in 1999 in Heerenveen and finished seventh over 10,000 meters and tenth over 5000 meters. In 2004 he was again seventh over 10,000 meters in Seoul and 12th over 5000 meters. In 2005 he was 23rd over 5000 meters in Inzell. At the all-round world championships Taubenrauch finished ninth in Gothenburg in 1994 , and eleventh in Baselga di Pinè in 1995 . Highlights of career was the participation in the Winter Olympics in 1998 in Nagano and 2002 in Salt Lake City . In 1998 he started over three courses: he finished 38th over 1500 meters, finished sixth over 5000 meters and eleventh over 10,000 meters. In 2002, after a fall over 5000 meters, he was only 32nd and last.

In 1995, 1998 and 2000 Taubenrauch won the German championship title over 5000 meters, and in 1995 over 10,000 meters. He set a total of five German records.
