Daniel Lins Côrtes , mostly just Daniel (born December 12, 1979 in Niterói ), is a Brazilian-New Zealand football player .

Career

Daniel first ventured to Europe in 2002 and played for the Hungarian club Videoton FC Fehérvár for a few months . After a brief return to Brazil, he was under contract with FC Twente Enschede in the Netherlands in 2003 and then again with Fehérvár. As a result, the midfielder played for several years in Brazil, including with the first division clubs Botafogo FR and EC Juventude . In 2007 he was in the final of the Taça Guanabara with Madureira EC . For the 2007/08 season he accepted an offer from the newly formed New Zealand A-League club Wellington Phoenix . At the end of 2008 he received New Zealand citizenship and thus did not occupy any of the maximum four (later five) foreigner places.

After he mostly only came on as a substitute in the 2011/12 season , he did not receive a contract extension after five years at Wellington Phoenix. A few days later he was eligible to play for the New Zealand national football team , for which he had to live in New Zealand for five years.

Daniel found a new club in July 2012 with the Thai first division club Police United from the capital Bangkok .
