Lúcio , full name Lúcio Carlos Cajueiro Souza (born June 20, 1979 in Recife ) is a Brazilian football player .

Career

Lúcio comes from the youth department of Unibol , where he played until 1999 before joining the EC São Bento . From there he was loaned to SE Gama for half a season before returning in 2001. In the same year, the player with the strong left foot joined Esporte Clube XV de Novembro in Piracicaba , where he was on the ball for a season.

For the 2002 season - in Brazil the seasons are played in the calendar year - he moved to Ituano FC , where he scored two goals in 25 games. Between July and December 2002 he played with AD São Caetano before returning to Ituano. In June 2003 Lúcio SE joined Palmeiras , where he played until 2005. It was then awarded twice; In 2006 he played ten games for São Paulo FC , the following year he put on Gremio Porto Alegre's shirt .

For the 2007/08 season Lúcio moved to Hertha BSC in the German Bundesliga . He received a four-year contract with the Berliners. On September 22, 2007, Lúcio scored his first Bundesliga goal in the game against Borussia Dortmund . On the eighth day of the game at FC Schalke 04 , Lúcio suffered a torn cruciate ligament , a torn patellar tendon , and damage to the inner ligament and meniscus . Even his career was in jeopardy after his injury. His recovery took about 14 months. On December 18, 2008 in the game against Olympiacos , which Hertha BSC lost 4-0, he made his comeback after being substituted on by coach Lucien Favre in the 87th minute. In an interview Lúcio said: "These were the 4 most important minutes of my life". In August 2009 he was loaned to Gremio Porto Alegre again until the end of the season. On February 13, 2010, he tore a cruciate ligament in the game against São José Porto Alegre.

After Hertha was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga , the contract with Lúcio was terminated. In December he was brought back by Gremio Porto Alegre and was able to build on his old achievements there.
