Enrico Sonnenberg

Enrico Sonnenberg (born July 1, 1979 - † May 29, 2015 in Rostock ) was a German motorcycle racer .

Motorsport career

Enrico Sonnenberg came to motorcycling in 2000 through the races on the Teterower Bergring . In 2008 he took second place in the Bergring Cup. Also in 2008 he was involved in a serious accident in Rastede during the first run of the A license at the grass track race.

In 2012 he took part in the long course World Championship in Tayac and achieved 13th place in qualification run 2 with 8 points. In 2013, he was on the Teterower Bergring as a member of the MC Bergring Teterow e. V. Third in the race for the Green Belt and fourth in the Bergring Cup final.

In 2015 he qualified in Swingfield, England, with an 8th place in the first semifinals for the final of the European Grass Track Championships on July 18 in Staphorst, Netherlands.

On May 23, 2015, Sonnenberg crashed his motorcycle badly on the Teterower Bergring in a points run in the 500 cm³ class, whereupon he was first taken to the Teterow hospital with internal injuries and transferred to Rostock on the same day. Enrico Sonnenberg died the following week on Friday, May 29, 2015, in the Rostock University Hospital.

Others

The Speedway Bundesliga race in Stralsund, planned for the day of his funeral, was postponed so that track racing fans could attend the funeral. Sonnenberg left behind a partner and a daughter.
