Oliver Jonas (born May 14, 1979 in Neuss ) is a former German ice hockey goalkeeper who was last active for the Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg from the German ice hockey league . In 2005 he became German champion with the Eisbären Berlin and played for the German national team at the World Cup in the same year .

Career

The 1.83 m tall goalie spent his studies at Harvard University in Cambridge , Massachusetts , for whose ice hockey team he played in the NCAA game operations . After college, the goalkeeper returned to his homeland, where he signed a contract with Eisbären Berlin from the German Ice Hockey League .

Jonas played his first DEL game with the Eisbären on October 26, 2001 against the Munich Barons and stayed in the capital until the 2004/05 season . In addition, he was equipped in 2002/03 with a sponsorship license for the ETC Crimmitschau , for which he completed a game. With the Eisbären the left catcher came first twice in the preliminary round, once runner-up, and in 2005 he won the German championship with the team for the first time . In the 2002/03 season, Jonas also made it to the German national team for the first time , for which he completed four world championships, one World Cup and a total of 41 international matches. In May 2005 Jonas contract with Eisbären Berlin was terminated prematurely, whereupon the goalkeeper moved to the Cologne Sharks for the 2005/06 season.

Jonas's career stagnated somewhat in his first year in Cologne, but despite Adam Hauser's commitment for the 2006/07 season , thanks to good performances in the 2007 Skoda Cup, Jonas managed to return to the national team, for which he was also at the 2007 World Cup in Moscow the post stood. In the play-offs Jonas was no longer used for the Haie and switched to league rivals Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg for the 2007/08 season . On January 22, 2009, Jonas announced that he would end his career after the 2008-09 season.

Away from the ice, Harvard graduate Oliver Jonas holds a PhD in biophysics with a “Master of Physics” degree. His dissertation is entitled “Dynamics of Cell Adhesion ”. He is married and has two sons and a daughter. Oliver Jonas is the nephew of goalkeeper legend Helmut de Raaf , his sister Isabel Onken plays as a striker in the Bavarian State League for women at EHC Munich .
