Hans Heinrich Driftmann (born January 3, 1948 in Bückeburg ; † April 26, 2016 in Elmshorn ) was a German officer and entrepreneur . As a personally liable and managing partner, he led the family company Peter Kölln KGaA in the 6th generation between 1988 and 2015 . The company is based in Elmshorn. From 2009 to 2013 he was President of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK).

Life

Driftmann's parents are the post office clerk Dipl.-Ing. Friedrich Driftmann and his wife Helen geb. Goehmann . Driftmann passed his Abitur in Lüchow (Wendland) in 1966 . He was married to Gesche Driftmann born in 1970 . Kölln († May 7, 2019) , who gave him four daughters. At the age of 68 he succumbed to a glioblastoma . Klaus Schlie , Peter Harry Carstensen , Jost de Jager , Lutz Kipp , Reinhard Meyer and Rüdiger Döhler came to the memorial service on May 27, 2016 in the Nikolaikirche . Torsten Albig , Uli Wachholtz , Gerhard Fouquet , Hubertus von Luckner and Christian von Boetticher spoke . Driftmann's wife died of non-Hodgkin lymphoma in August 2018 .

According to his own statements, Driftmann originally wanted to become a pastor . On October 1, 1966, he joined the Bundeswehr as an officer candidate , where he served until 1987. As a professional soldier in the Air Force , he studied economics and social science at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich from 1974 to 1979, exempted from military service . With a doctoral thesis in educational psychology , he was awarded a Dr. phil. doctorate With Dieter Portner he was editor of the series of military education in Walhalla and Praetoria publishing house . From 1981 to 1983 he was a consultant for education and science in the Federal Ministry of Defense . In 1982/83 he held a teaching position for international politics at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn for four semesters . From 1983 to 1987 he was a lecturer in business and organizational science at the command academy of the Bundeswehr . At the same time, he took part in the Postgraduate Program in International Politics and Security Policy at the Aspen Institute from 1983 to 1988 . In August 2010, as President of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in a Focus interview he made positive comments about the German navy's missions abroad to secure sea routes against piracy . As Colonel d. R. was most recently mob-ordered as a " mirrored " chief of staff of WBK I (coast) . In 2010 he was deputy chairman of the Bundeswehr Structural Commission . In 2012 he was elected Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Society for Development, Procurement and Operations .

Entrepreneur

In 1987 Driftmann joined the management of the Köllnflockenwerke in order to take over the management of the company in 1988 as the successor to his father-in-law Ernsthermann Kölln. He founded the Association of Business Associations in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein (UV Nord). As its president (until 2009), he advocated the merger of the states of Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg into a so-called northern state . He was a member of the executive committee of the Confederation of German Employers' Associations . Vice-President since 1993, he was elected President of the Kiel Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 2004. As founding president, he led the IHK Schleswig-Holstein from 2006 to June 30, 2007. It is a cooperation of the IHKs Flensburg, Kiel and Lübeck. Vice-President since 2005, he was elected President of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry on March 26, 2009. In 2010, as Vice-Chairman of the Expert Commission on the Reform of the Bundeswehr, he described the Bundeswehr as a "case of restructuring" . His term of office at DIHK ended on March 20, 2013. With a view to the career opportunities of young people, he called for education not to be left to politics alone. Driftmann was a member of the CDU Schleswig-Holstein . In mid-October 2015, Driftmann gave up his managing director position at Kölln to Christian von Boetticher and instead took over the chairmanship of the company's supervisory board from his father-in-law Ernsthermann Kölln.

University career

Since 1988 he has been a lecturer in business psychology at the University of Education in Kiel. When she moved to Flensburg, he switched to the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel . Since then he has been honorary professor at the Institute for Business Administration . On September 3, 2012, a lecture hall of the former college of education was named after him. Gerhard Fouquet, Angelika Volquartz , Norbert Gansel and Peter Harry Carstensen were present at the inauguration . At the beginning of May 2014 he was elected Chairman of the University Council of the CAU. He therefore gave up his position on the Board of Trustees.

In 2015, Hans Heinrich Driftmann handed over the management of the Kölln-Werke to the former CDU politician Christian von Boetticher. This marked the beginning of retirement for Driftmann. He was the successor to his father-in-law Ernsthermann Kölln in the company of the same name for almost 30 years. His daughter Gesche married Driftmann in 1970 and had four daughters with her. Driftmann lived with his family in the historic villa on the factory premises in downtown Elmshorn. He was buried in the cemetery on Friedensallee in his hometown.
