Jörg Abderhalden (born August 28, 1979 ) is a former Swiss wrestler . He is the king of wrestling of the Swiss wrestling and alpine festivals in Bern (1998), Lucerne (2004) and Aarau (2007). In addition to his three royal titles, alongside Christian Stucki, he was the only wrestling king to win the Unspunnen Festival (1999) and the Kilchberger Schwinget (2002), which only take place every six years. This success is also known as the "Schwinger Grand Slam".

Career as a wrestler

Jörg Abderhalden was the dominant wrestler in the years 1998 to 2007, in which he won or advanced to the final course at all federal events in which he participated . His biggest rivals were Arnold Forrer , Martin Grab and Stefan Fausch . Forrer was also one of his training partners in the Wattwil wrestling club, and Abderhalden put up against him in the final course at the Swiss Wrestling and Alpine Festival in Nyon (2001), which was enough for Forrer to be king of wrestling. Abderhalden lost to Grab in the final course of the Unspunnen Festival in 2006. Abderhalden won the final course at the Swiss Wrestling and Alpine Festival in Aarau (2007) against Fausch , whereupon he was wrestling king for the third time, something only Ruedi Hunsperger and Hans Stucki had achieved before him . Abderhalden subsequently suffered severe injuries to his shoulder (2008) and knee (2009). In 2010, however, Jörg Abderhalden fought his way to the top again, won three wreath festivals and classified himself in second place at the Swiss Confederation in Frauenfeld after losing in the direct encounter against his successor as wrestling king, Kilian Wenger .

In his career, Abderhalden won five federal wreaths (three times wrestling king, four times in the final course, a second and third place each). His Palmarès also contains 15 partial association wreaths (of which 11 wins), 14 mountain wreaths (8 wins) and 51 cantonal wreaths (29 wins). He won the Northeast Swiss Wrestling Festival eight times (1998 to 2000, 2004 to 2007, 2010) and the St. Gallen Cantonal Wrestling Festival seven times (1999 to 2001, 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2010). Abderhalden has won a total of 85 wreaths, 51 of which were wreath festival winners. On October 14, 2010, he announced his resignation.
