Kilchberger Schwinget

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kilchberger Schwinget or Kilchberg-Schwinget is a wrestling festival that takes place every six years in Kilchberg near Zurich. It has a special status among the national wrestling festivals because only the sixty best wrestlers in Switzerland, in wrestling jargon "the very bad ones", are invited. Therefore, a victory at Kilchberger is more difficult to achieve among wrestlers than a victory at the Swiss Wrestling and Alpine Festival and brings with it a corresponding status.

The Kilchberger Schwinget was founded by the Kilchberg lawyer Emil Huber (1879–1938). The first Kilchberger Schwinget was won in 1927 by Fritz Hagmann . In 1933 Huber set up a foundation with CHF 15,000 with the purpose of organizing a wrestling festival periodically in Kilchberg.

The Kilchberger Schwinget is held every six years in September on the grounds of the “Uf Stocken” estate in Kilchberg. It is broadcast live on Swiss television . A special feature of the Kilchberger Schwinget is that both the wrestlers and the 12,000 visitors are only allowed to come by invitation.

winner

As the only wrestler to date, Karl Meli has won the Kilchberger Schwinget twice.
