Association activity
After his resignation as active, Schläpfer led Thomas Sutter , Arnold Forrer and Jörg Abderhalden - his nephews and goddesses - to federal royal titles as technical director in the Northeast Swiss Wrestling Association . He was also the technical director of the Swiss Wrestling Association (ESV) and chairman of the assembly of representatives. He earned merits in promoting young talent; u. a. the inclusion of the swing in the sports promotion program youth and sport goes back to his initiative.
As chairman of the assembly of deputies, Schläpfer was designated to succeed Hans Pauli as chairman of the ESV. In 2008 he was elected chairman in Schwyz . Schläpfer wanted to introduce a tax: Wrestlers should give up a certain percentage of their income to the association. Abderhalden, the first Schwinger to hire a marketing company, refused. The central board of the association agreed against Schläpfer's will on a settlement with Abderhalden, whereupon Schläpfer immediately resigned. Later he wanted to stay in case the assembly of deputies came back to the settlement. In a regional preselection in January 2012, however, he failed, whereupon he finally renounced the office. At the beginning of March 2012, Mario John was elected as the new chairman in Aigle VD , and Schläpfer was made an honorary member of the ESV.
The documentary by Kuno Bont Königstreffen addresses a. a. the problem of advertising in the wrestling sport and the handling of the problem by Ernst Schläpfer as chairman of the ESV.
Professional career
In 1988, after studying agronomy at the ETH Zurich, Schläpfer received his doctorate with a dissertation entitled Assessment and assessment of animals for slaughter in the categories of cows, young bulls and calves under Swiss conditions . In 1989 he moved to Neuhausen am Rheinfall and took over the management of the agricultural school in Charlottenfels . In 1993 he was appointed rector of the cantonal vocational training center (BBZ) Schaffhausen.
Discrepancies soon arose. In 1995, Cantonal Councilor Max Baumann u. a. «High-handed decisions». After a survey by the supervisory commission of the teachers about Schläpfer's management style, which a large number of them considered “out of date”, the government council ordered an external investigation that could not refute the main allegations. In a new survey in January 2016, he was charged with “deficiencies in terms of transparency and criticism”. After a dispute with Christian Amsler , director of education , who accused Schläpfer of interfering with his competencies, the Schaffhausen government council released him immediately as rector of the BBZ for “behaviors that make further cooperation impossible” and dismissed him at the end of January 2020. Schläpfer fought that Notice of termination at the higher court , which invited the parties to an out-of-court settlement. While Schläpfer was ready to respond, the government council refused.
Nevertheless, Ernst Schläpfer was honored in 2019 at the BBZ Schaffhausen with the special prize of the Prix Vision initiated by the Peyer family for achievements in vocational training. He himself had been a member of the jury for the award since 1999.
As Schläpfer's successor, the government council of the canton of Schaffhausen appointed Marc Kummer as the new rector of the BBZ Schaffhausen on June 1, 2020.
Political career
Although he came from an SVP family - his father was mayor of the SVP in Wolfhalden for fifteen years, his younger brother Eugen founded a section of the SVP in Wolfhalden and is still its president today (March 2020) - Ernst Schläpfer joined the SP . Until he moved to Neuhausen in 1989, he was a member of the Herisau residents' council . In 2000 he was elected to the Schaffhausen Cantonal Council, but resigned in 2004 because chief officials were no longer allowed to be in the Cantonal Council after a constitutional amendment. In the same year he wanted to become a councilor. Since his party did not nominate him, he ran on his own initiative, but got the worst result of all candidates.
In 2002 he was elected to the Neuhauser residents' council. When he became chairman of the Swiss Wrestling Association in 2008, he resigned. In 2009 he resigned from the SP because "one party obscures thinking". In 2016 the Appenzeller Zeitung brought his name into play for the government council elections, Schläpfer confirmed his interest, but was not nominated by any party or group and ultimately did not stand for election. In the same year he ran unsuccessfully as a non-party on the SP list again for the Neuhauser residents' council. In December 2019, Schläpfer replaced the resigning Renzo Loiudice for the remainder of the 2017-2020 term of office in the residents' council.

Schläpfer grew up with four siblings on a farm in Wolfhalden . Before studying at ETHZ, he completed primary school teacher training. He was president of the handball club Pfader Neuhausen. The son of his sister and his goddess boy is the former wrestling king Jörg Abderhalden .
