Swiss of the Year 2012: Celebration at the heart of Switzerland

The Swiss and the Swiss of the Year ( French Suisse de l'année , Italian Personaggio svizzero dell'anno , Romansh Persunalitad svizra da l'onn ) was from 2002 to 2015 in January of the following year by the Swiss television audience during the "Swiss Award" -Gala elected. After the broadcast in January 2016, the program and thus the price were discontinued in order to save money.

The names of the winners were immortalized on a plaque of honor on the Älggi-Alp , the geographical center of Switzerland. To unveil the respective entry, an annual celebration was held there, in which the current award winner usually also took part.

Since 2014, the winners of the Sports Awards have automatically been nominated for the SwissAward as candidates for the title of Swiss of the Year . This concerned the sportsman of the year , the sportsman of the year and the disabled sportsman of the year . The clause in the regulations stating that the title of Swiss of the year could only be achieved once in a lifetime was therefore deleted.
