Yevgeny Wiktorowitsch Ignatow ( Russian Евгений Викторович Игнатов ; born March  11, 1979 in Voronezh , Central Russia ) is a former Russian canoeist , 6-time world champion and 4-time European champion.

Athletic career

From 2005 to 2011 Ignatow won 6 gold and 4 silver medals at the Canoe World Championships . He was also European champion four times.

At the 2005 World Championships in Zagreb , he and Nikolai Lipkin were world champions in the two-man canoe (200 m) ahead of the two Germans Christian Gille and Tomasz Wylenzek . He was able to defend this title at the World Championships in 2006 and 2007 , his new partner was Ivan Schtyl . At the 2009 World Championships in Dartmouth , Canada , he won the gold medal in the single canoe (4 × 200 m relay) together with Viktor Melantjew , Iwan Schtyl and Nikolai Lipkin . He was able to defend this title in Poznan in 2010 , and Mikhail Pavlov took the place of Viktor Melantjew . In 2011 in Szeged he again won the gold medal in the single canoe (4 × 200 m relay), this time with Wiktor Melantjew , Iwan Schtyl and Alexei Korowaschkow .

Ignatov is multiple Russian champion.

Since the end of his sporting career, he has worked as a coach of the Voronezh youth team. In 2015 he ran for the Patriots of Russia party in the Voronezh Oblast Duma elections. His party received a total of 5,834 votes (0.62%) with a turnout of 50.4%.

Ignatow is married and has one son.
