Patrik Baboumian (* 1. July 1979 in Abadan , Iran ) is an Armenian , in Potsdam living strength athletes and non-fiction author , who in since 1986 Germany lives. At the Strongman Championships in August 2011, he won the title of “Germany's strongest man”. He advocates a vegan diet.

Life

Baboumian grew up as a half-orphan after losing his father in a traffic accident when he was four. His mother was a successful track and field athlete in Iran . Baboumian studied psychology in Marburg .

Baboumian began in 1994 at the age of 15 years with the weight training . In 1998 he took part in his first bodybuilding competition and became Hessian junior middleweight champion and fourth in the international German championship. In the following year he started with a body weight of 84 kg, about 10 kg heavier. He won the Hessian title again, became an international German champion in the junior heavyweight class a week later and then won the title of overall winner across all classes.

Baboumian took part in Strongman Championships for the first time in 2006 and improved the record in logging that had existed since 2004 by 15 kg to 140 kg.

Since August 11, 2007 Patrik Baboumian has had the title of “Germany's strongest man” (at 105 kg); He is also fifth in the open weight class and continues to hold the German record for logging in the 105 kg class (142.5 kg).

In 2007 Baboumian took 14th place at the IFSA lightweight world championship in Panyu City ( China ).

In 2009 Baboumian broke the world record in tree trunks that had been in place since 2004 (at 105 kg body weight). On May 30th, 2009 he mastered a load of 162.5 kg at the 1st German Loglift Championship, which brought him the overall victory here. In the final of the National Strongman Series, the Germany Cup in Waging am See , Baboumian improved this record to 165 kg and again won the title of the strongest man in Germany (105 kg body weight). At the 2009 World Championships in Kiev Baboumian took 9th place (105 kg body weight) on December 11th, 2009, which makes him the first German lightweight to make it into the top 10 at a Strongman World Championship.

At 180 kg, Baboumian set a new German heavyweight record on April 3, 2010 at the 2nd German tree trunk cutting championship in Lüchow and won the German championship title in the log lift for the second time in a row. In 2010, after switching to the heavyweight division, Baboumian was able to get the German vice title in strongman straight away.

Baboumian reached the high point of his career with his 4th place at the World Championships in tree trunk cutting on February 12, 2011 in Vilnius . In August 2011, Baboumian was able to secure victory in the open class at the German Strongman Championship in the second attempt and thus received the title of “Germany's strongest man 2011”.

In November 2011, Baboumian promoted the animal rights organization PETA in the “Herbivores” campaign for a vegan lifestyle. According to his own statement, Patrik Baboumian has been a vegetarian since 2005 and a vegan since 2011. He received media attention because he won titles in “Strongest Man” competitions with a purely plant-based diet.

In August 2012, Baboumian went back to Waging to defend his title with Germany's strongest man. He finished third, just one point behind the winner.

In the documentary The Game Changers (2018) on the subject of "Veganism in High-Performance Sports ", which was produced by James Cameron , Patrik Baboumian can be seen alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and other competitive athletes.
