Mia Audina

Mia Audina Tjiptawan (born August 22, 1979 in Jakarta ) is a former badminton player. It started successfully for Indonesia until 2000 and successfully for the Netherlands from 2000 to 2006 . Audina last played for the Dutch badminton champion Conservatrix / Velo .

Career

Audina started badminton very early. At the age of 11 she was already playing at the highest level, but her parents reined in her sporting career because she was about to finish school. After graduating from school, Audina concentrated fully on the sport under the supervision of her father and developed into one of the best young players in Indonesia.

Audina became a member of the Indonesian national team at the age of 13. This made her the youngest player ever to start for Indonesia. In 1994 she won the Uber Cup with the national team . Audina ensured the decisive point gain and thus became a folk heroine. In the same year she won the world title with the national team.

Audina first took part in the Olympic Games in Atlanta at the age of 16 and won the silver medal in the individual competition. After that, her career stalled for a few years. She cared for her sick mother until her death in April 1999. In July 1999, the Indonesian Badminton Association informed her that she would no longer be considered for the Indonesian national team.

In 1999 she married the Dutch gospel singer Tylio Lobman and moved with him to Rotterdam . There she resumed her intensive badminton training. When the Indonesian Badminton Association disagreed with their plans to train in the Netherlands but continue to compete for Indonesia, Audina took on Dutch citizenship in 2000 .

In March 2000 she received the promise to start for the Netherlands at the Olympic Games in Sydney . There Audina was eliminated in the quarter finals of the individual competition. In 2002 Audina won the silver medal at the European Championships and was third in the 2003 World Championships in Birmingham .

In April 2004 Audina became European champion in the individual competition. With this victory she improved to number 2 in the world rankings. By July 2004 Audina had won a total of nine Grand Prix tournaments. On August 19, 2004, Mia Audina won the silver medal at the Olympic Games in Athens . In 2005 she won the women's individual competition at the Strasbourg Masters .

On August 16, 2006, shortly before the World Championships in Madrid , she surprised the badminton world with the announcement of her resignation. The reasons for this are increasing injuries and diseases that are only slowly recovering.
