The Persatuan Bulutangkis Seluruh Indonesia (PBSI) (translated: Indonesian Badminton Association ) is the top national administrative organization in the sport of badminton in Indonesia . The association was founded on May 5, 1951 .

history

Badminton itself was played in Indonesia during the colonial era from the late 1920s. The sport was introduced mainly by residents of neighboring Singapore. The national association itself was founded six years after the country gained independence in 1951. In 1959, PBSI was a founding member of the continental umbrella organization Badminton Asia Confederation , then known as the Asian Badminton Confederation , and immediately later also a member of the Badminton World Federation , then still operating under the name International Badminton Federation . Badminton quickly became the national sport of the country in the early years of the association's existence, and Indonesia was the top performing nation in the sport in the 1970s and 1980s. In the mid-1980s, this supremacy had to be ceded to China.
