Badminton New Zealand
Badminton New Zealand is the top national administrative organization in the sport of badminton in New Zealand . The association based in Taradale / Napier was founded in 1927 as the New Zealand Badminton Federation .
history
Badminton was first played in New Zealand shortly after 1900 and the first club in Auckland BC was founded at the same time . It was not until 1927 that the first New Zealand Open took place and the New Zealand Badminton Federation (NZBF) was founded in the same year. The first president was the New Zealand Open title holder Archdeacon Creed-Meredith . In Wellington the first club was founded by Jack Marshall , who later became the country's prime minister. In 1934 the New Zealand Badminton Federation was a founding member of the Badminton World Federation , then known as the International Badminton Federation . The New Zealand Badminton Federation also became a member of the continental umbrella organization Badminton Oceania . At the beginning of the new millennium, the association was renamed to its current name.
