Welsh Badminton Cymru

The Welsh Badminton Cymru (WBC) is the top national administrative organization in the sport of badminton in Wales . The association was founded in January 1928 and was first known under the English name Welsh Badminton Union (WBU).

history

The first Welsh Open was held in 1927 and the Welsh Badminton Union was launched in January of the following year . The first president was Trevor Williams , who would direct the fate of the association for the next quarter of a century. In July 1934, the Welsh Badminton Union was a founding member of the Badminton World Federation , then known as the International Badminton Federation . The Welsh Badminton Union also became a member of the continental umbrella organization Badminton Europe in 1968 , at that time as the European Badminton Unionacting. Originally, the main focus was in the north of Wales, but until the end of the millennium it shifted further and further to the south of the country. The Welsh Badminton Cymru moved its headquarters from Cardiff Bay to the Welsh Institute of Sport in Sophia Gardens in Cardiff in January 2010 .
