Badminton Scotland
Badminton Scotland is the main national administrative organization for the sport of badminton in Scotland . The association was founded in April 1911 as the Scottish Badminton Union (SBU).
history
Badminton was first played in Scotland in St. Andrews in the 1880s. The game was spread primarily by officers returning from India and by Dr. WB McTier . In 1900 there was the first club match between St. Andrews and Aberdeen, where the center of the sport quickly shifted. In 1907 the first Scottish Open were held. In 1911 the Scottish Badminton Union (SBU) was founded. The international series against Ireland started in 1910, the one against England in 1922. In the 1927/1928 season, inter-group team competitions were held for the first time, three years earlier than in neighboring England. In 1934 the Scottish Badminton Union was a founding member of the Badminton World Federation , then known as the International Badminton Federation . In 1968 the Scottish Badminton Union also became a member of the continental umbrella organization Badminton Europe , then known as the European Badminton Union . At the beginning of the new millennium, the association was renamed Badminton Scotland .
