Craig Reedie

Sir Craig Collins Reedie , GBE (born May 6, 1941 in Stirling ) is a sports official and former Scottish badminton player .

Career

Craig Reedie's most significant achievements date from after his career as a badminton player. From 1981 to 1984 he was President of the International Badminton Federation (IBF). In 1992 he became Chairman of the British Olympic Association (BOA). He held this position until 2005.

In 1994 he was elected to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and has been a member of the Executive Board there since 2009. He was also a board member of LOCOG , the organizing committee for the London 2012 Olympics.

Reedie has been chairman of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) since January 1st, 2014 .

In October 2018, the compatibility of this position with membership in the IOC was criticized. The organization Mouvement Pour un Cyclisme Crédible asked Reedie to resign in an open letter on October 24, 2018. She criticizes u. a. his handling of Chris Froome's doping case , the reintegration of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency, and years of allowing the opioid tramadol .

Awards

In 1999, Craig Reedie was inducted into the Order of the British Empire as Commander . In 2006 he was ennobled as a Knight Bachelor and in 2018 he was made Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire.
