Badminton Ireland
Badminton Ireland ( Irish Cumann Badmantain na hÉireann ) is the highest national administrative organization in the sport of badminton in Ireland . The association was founded in 1899 as the Badminton Union of Ireland (BUI). He is responsible for both Irish and Northern Irish badminton activities.
history
Badminton was first played in Ireland in the 1880s. In 1892 the first club was founded in Limavady. Derry, Coleraine, Wicklow and Dundrum followed. As a result of a dispute between the latter two clubs, the Badminton Union of Ireland was founded in 1899 . In 1902 the first Irish Open were held. The international series against Scotland started in 1903 and against Scotland in 1910. In 1911 the Northern Irish sub-association Ulster was founded. In 1934 the Badminton Union of Ireland was a founding member of the Badminton World Federation , then known as the International Badminton Federation . In 1967, the Badminton Union of Ireland also became a founding member of the continental umbrella organization Badminton Europe , then known as the European Badminton Union . At the beginning of the new millennium, the association was renamed Badminton Ireland .
