Badminton Association of Malaysia
The Badminton Association of Malaysia is the top national administrative organization in the sport of badminton in Malaysia . The association was founded in its current form in 1964 , but has its predecessor in the Malayan Badminton Association , which was founded on November 11, 1934 .
history
However, the establishment of the association in 1964 is not the beginning of badminton activities in what is now Malaysia. Badminton was played there for the first time in the 1920s, first at the tea parties of the "Towkays" (business people). Friendlies and provincial comparisons followed. In 1934 the provinces of Perak, Penang, Selangor and Singapore founded the Malay Badminton Association. In 1937 the Malaysian Open followed , one of the oldest badminton tournaments in Asia. Shortly after World War II , Malaya became one of the leading nations in men's badminton. After a drop in quality in the 1960s and 1970s, Malaysian men made it back to the top of the world in the 1980s, while women in Muslim Malaysia are somewhat inferior to men compared to the leading nations in badminton. With the sidek serve , a badminton technique is named after a pair of Malaysian brothers.
The association became a member of the Badminton World Federation , then known as the International Badminton Federation and, in 1959, also a founding member of the continental umbrella organization Badminton Asia Confederation , then still operating under the name Asian Badminton Confederation .
