Heah Joo Seang

Heah Joo Seang (born November 2, 1899 in Sungei Nibong Kechil , Penang , † May 14, 1962 in Brompton Hospital in London ) was a Malaysian businessman, politician and official.

Career

In 1931 Heah Joo Seang was the Managing Partner of Hin Giap, one of Penang's largest rubber exporters. Later he was chairman of Amalgamated Amusements (1932-1937), chairman of Lam Seng Cheong (Ipoh), chairman of Synn Cheong and Company (Taiping), director of the Khiam Seng Trading Company (Ipoh) and director of the Kim Hin Company. He was also active in numerous public functions, for example on the Chinese Advisory Board in Penang (1931), as Municipal Commissioner in Georgetown (1931-1932), Editor of the Malayan Chinese Review (1931-1933), President of the Old Xaverians' Association , Honorary Secretary of the Penang Chinese Unemployed Relief Fund, President of the Penang Rubber Exchange, President of the Overseas Chinese Association (1940s), President of the Straits Chinese British Association (SCBA), Chairman of the Penang People's Education Association, Chairman of the Phor Tay Institution, Federation Industrial Court, on the Rubber Study Group Committee, on the Malayan Rubber Export Registration Board, as President of the Penang Chinese Swimming Club (1953) and as President of the Malayan Badminton Association (1949 and 1954 to 1959). As a politician, he headed three parties (Independence of Malaya Party, Party Negara and Penang MCA) over a period of 15 years.
