Malaysian badminton championship
At the Malaysian Badminton Championships , the country's titleholders in this sport are determined. Malaysia is traditionally a stronghold for badminton. The Malaysia Open , open to athletes from all countries, has been held since 1937. It was not until 1969 that the Malaysian Association decided to introduce the Malaysian Closed Badminton Championships in order to determine the country's titleholders from among its own ranks. One reason was the suspension of the Malaysia Open from 1969 to 1982. In the 2000s, the championship was held as the Proton National Circuit Grand Prix Final . From 2017, the title fights will again be officially referred to as national championships.
