Christian Gotthilf Tag (born April 2, 1735 in Beierfeld , † July 19, 1811 in Niederzwönitz ) was a Protestant cantor and composer .

Life

Tag was born in 1735 as the son of the Beierfeld cantor and school teacher Christian Gottlob Tag. After first schooling in his Ore Mountains homeland, he attended the Dresden Kreuzschule as a free student , where he received music training as an alumnus and chorister under Gottfried August Homilius . Although he wanted to enroll at the University of Leipzig as a theology student, he accepted the position of cantor in the small Saxon town of Hohenstein in 1755 , to which he remained loyal until 1808. He moved to his daughter in Niederzwönitz, where he died in 1811.

Works

Tag is considered one of the most capable organists, organ experts and cantors of his time. He composed an abundance of sacred works, which he created for his Hohenstein Choir. The focus of his work cantatas in which he at the edge form holds and many soundcolouring and tonsymbolische used items.
