The Svenska Badmintonförbundet (SBF) is the highest national administrative organization in the sport of badminton in Sweden . The association, based in the House of Sports (Idrottens Hus) in Stockholm , was founded on April 9, 1936.

history

Badminton was first played in Sweden in 1932 when the game spilled over from nearby Denmark, first in Malmö, followed by Stockholm and Gothenburg. The first Danish championships were held in the 1936/1937 season, the Swedish Open in 1956. In the meantime the Svenska Badmintonförbundet became a member of the Badminton World Federation in 1937 , then known as the International Badminton Federation . With Stellan Mohlin , the Swedish Badminton Federation also provided an outstanding President of the IBF. In 1967 the SBF also became a founding member of the continental umbrella organization Badminton Europe , then still known as the European Badminton Union . The Swedish Open was held for the last time in 2000 and was replaced by the Swedish International Stockholm in 2004 . Another top international tournament was organized in the 1990s with Malmö International .
