Badminton has been played in Russia since the 1950s. The USSR Badminton Federation soon became a member of the Badminton World Federation , then known as the International Badminton Federation . The Soviet association also became a member of the continental umbrella organization Badminton Europe in 1974 , which at that time was still operating under the name of the European Badminton Union . With the end of the Soviet Union in 1990, the end of the Soviet Union was sealed and the organization was transferred to the CIS Association in 1991, which existed until 1992 and was replaced by the National Badminton Federation of Russia. In 2005 the Russian Badminton Federation (RBF), which had existed in parallel until then, was dissolved, which had already taken over the tasks in the field of badminton in the then RSFSR .
