Chairul Tanjung (born June 16, 1962 in Jakarta , Indonesia ) is an Indonesian entrepreneur who, according to Forbes Magazine, is one of the five richest Indonesians with a net worth of four billion US dollars. He is the founder of CT Corp.

Life

Chairul Tanjung comes from a simple family, his father A. G. is a reporter, his mother Halimah a housewife. Due to the economic crisis in 1966 , his family had to move to a slum in Jakarta . As a result, his mother campaigned for him to study dentistry at the University of Indonesia despite the family's low income .

Business life

After graduating, he founded a small shoe factory, later a finance company, and built a shopping center in Bandung . In 1996 Tanjung bought the bank Mega, which was the only bank in Indonesia to make a profit despite the crisis during the world economic crisis of 1998. As a result, he bought the television channel Trans tv and a mining company. In 2010, Forbes magazine listed him as the ninth richest businessman in Indonesia and the 997th in the world with a billion dollar net worth. In the following two years, his fortune quadrupled and in 2012, Forbes magazine ranked him fifth among the richest business people in Indonesia and 395th in the world.

CT Corp, before December 1, 2011 PARA Group, is a group of companies founded in 1987 . The use of "CT" has its basis in the initials of Chairul Tanjung. Tanjung is a member of the Jakarta Initiative Advisory Committee , the Indonesian delegation to the Asia-Europe Business Forum , the Pacific Basin Economic Council , sits on the Jakarta Arts Board of Trustees and is Chairman of the Board of Directors of the All-Indonesia Badminton Association and the Yayasan Indonesia Forum as well Member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Indonesia . From 2000 to 2004 he was President of Persatuan Bulutangkis Seluruh Indonesia .
