Franco Brienza (born March 19, 1979 in Cantù ( CO ), Italy ) is an Italian football player . He is mostly used as a winger on both sides of the attack, but also plays as a hanging tip.
Career
In the club
Franco Brienza began his professional career in 1997 at Foggia Calcio , where he played for three years and relegated with the club from Serie B to Serie C2 .
Then Brienza moved to the Sicilian club US Palermo . There he was a regular player in Serie C1 and rose with the team to Serie B, in which they could achieve tenth place in the table the following year. 2002/03 Brienza was loaned to the league rivals Ascoli Calcio , from January to June 2004 he played on loan for AC Perugia . At the Umbrian club, he made his Serie A debut on February 8, 2004 in the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium against AC Milan and played a total of twelve games.
Brienza experienced his most successful season to date in the 2004/05 game year , when he had ten goals in 33 games, a large part of the good season of promoted Palermo and the subsequent qualification for the UEFA Cup . After flying high in the previous season, Brienza was in a form low in the 2005/06 season . The main reason for this was that with coach Francesco Guidolin his great sponsor in Palermo was dismissed and his successor Luigi Delneri no longer built on him. Brienza found himself on the substitute bench and only managed short appearances. Only when Delneri was fired and a new coach came with Giuseppe Papadopulo , Franco Brienza's playing time increased again. His personal highlight of the season was the 1-0 winning goal in the first leg of the first leg of the UEFA Cup against FC Schalke 04 .
After the 2005/06 season, rumors about Brienza came up for the first time. He has been associated with Reggina Calcio and especially the SSC Napoli . However, after Francesco Guidolin was coached again in Palermo, Brienza stayed in Sicily in the hope that he would make it back to a regular under Guidolin. However, that didn't change his situation either because he was only supposed to remain a substitute player. On January 16, 2008, Franco Brienza moved to Reggina Calcio on loan with an option to buy. Brienza crowned his debut at Reggina Calcio with a goal against Cagliari Calcio . For the 2010/11 season he signed a contract with AC Siena , but moved to US Palermo after only two years .
After a season in Palermo, Brienza moved to Atalanta Bergamo , where he also stayed for only one year. In his following stations, AC Cesena and FC Bologna , he only stayed one season. In summer 2016 Brienza moved to FC Bari 1908 , which went bankrupt in summer 2018 and has played as SSC Bari in Serie D since the 2018/19 season.
In the national team
In June 2005 Franco Brienza was appointed to the Italian national team for the first time by Marcello Lippi . On June 8, 2005 he made his debut in the friendly against Serbia and Montenegro , three days later he completed his second international match. Since then, he has not been called to the Squadra Azzurra .
