Norman Rentsch (born November 22, 1979 in Frankfurt (Oder) ) is a former German handball player and current trainer. He coached HC Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga .

Career

Rentsch initially played for ESV Frankfurt, for which he played until 1997. The backcourt player then played for three years at USV Cottbus and two seasons at Dessau HV . After Rentsch played again for USV Cottbus in the 2002/03 season and relegated to the regional league with him , he joined the EHV Aue . In 2005 he had to end his career for health reasons.

Rentsch worked as an assistant trainer at EHV Aue from 2005 to 2008. He then trained the ESV locomotive Pirna for two years . In 2011, the second division team BSV Sachsen Zwickau signed him as sporting director. In December 2011 he took over the coaching position from BSV Sachsen Zwickau. In 2014 he moved to the Bundesliga club HC Leipzig . Under his leadership, Leipzig won the DHB Cup in 2016 . After filing for insolvency after the 2016/17 season, his work at HC Leipzig ended. For the 2018/19 season he was hired by Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund as a new coach and thus succeeded Ildikó Barna . After about two months, Norman Rentsch and Borussia Dortmund terminated the contract in August 2018 for personal reasons. From January 8, 2019, he took over the coaching position from BSV Sachsen Zwickau. On July 1, 2019, he also took over the position of managing director. Since the 2020/21 season he has been training BSV Sachsen Zwickau together with Dietmar Schmidt .
