Carlos Edwin Colón Jr. (born February 21, 1979 in San Juan , Puerto Rico ), better known by his ring name Carlito , is a Puerto Rican wrestler .
Life
youth
Carlos Edwin Colón Jr. was born into a wrestling family. His father was the Puerto Rican wrestler Carlos Colon , whose greatest success was winning the NWA World Heavyweight Championship against Ric Flair . He is also the founder of the Wrestling Promotion World Wrestling Council . Carlos' brother Edwin Carlos "Eddie" Colón is also a wrestler and active under the ring name Primo . His cousin is Epico Colon .
World Wrestling Council
After he was trained by his father, Carly Colón started his wrestling career in his wrestling promotion World Wrestling Council. During a month-long feud against Ray Gonzalez , he won the WWC Universal Heavyweight Championship eleven times . With his first win on January 29, 2000, he became the youngest wrestler ever to hold this title. Together with Primo and Konnan , he also held the WWC Tag Team Championship .
He then signed a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment .
World Wrestling Entertainment
After a short time in the WWE development league Ohio Valley Wrestling , Colón made his debut under the name Carlito Caribbean Cool (later just Carlito ) on October 7, 2004 in SmackDown! -Roster. In his first match defeated it John Cena to the States WWE United Championship . After about a month, however, Colón suffered a shoulder injury and lost the United States title again to Cena. Colón had to take a break for several months.
In March 2005, he returned at WrestleMania 21 back when he Roddy Piper and his guest Steve Austin in the show segment Piper's Pit attacked .
Colón moved to the RAW roster on June 20, 2005 and won the WWE Intercontinental Championship from Shelton Benjamin on his first appearance after the draft . At the major event Unforgiven 2005 on September 18, 2005 he lost the title to Ric Flair . Colón was still involved in the title event at the Intercontinental Championship, but was not allowed to win the title at that time.
On June 25, 2008, he switched to the Friday show SmackDown! . At the SmackDown! Edition on September 21, 2008, he and his brother Primo won the WWE Tag Team Title against Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins.
At the 25th edition of Wrestlemania on April 5, 2009, Colón and Primo also won the WWE World Tag Team title from The Miz and John Morrison and became the first Unified Tag Team Champions.
With the line-up change in 2009, Colón and Primo were sent to the Monday show RAW . However, on June 28, 2009 they lost their titles to Edge and Chris Jericho . The tag team was then disbanded. He subsequently appeared on the wrestling show WWE NXT as the coach of Michael Tarver.
On May 21, 2010, the WWE announced that Colon had been released. Carlito had violated the WWE Wellness Program and used illegal pain medication. Since he refused to go to rehab, he was released from the current contract.
World Wrestling Council and independent scene since 2010
From July 10, 2010 Colón appeared again at the World Wrestling Council, where he is still one of the top stars of the promotion. He won the main title of the doctorate a total of 17 times. Carlito is also a sought-after name in the international independent scene. He competed for the Pro Wrestling Syndicate, NWA Southwest, World Wrestling Association, Border City Wrestling, National Wrestling Superstars, Vendetta Pro Wrestling and Canadian National Wrestling Alliance. He last refused to return to the WWE in 2015.
In 2017 he starred in two episodes of the Netflix series GLOW .
