- In the 500 cm³ class, 29-year-old Spaniard Àlex Crivillé wins the world title on a Honda . He is against the American Kenny Roberts jr. ( Suzuki ) and the Japanese Tadayuki Okada (Honda). In the constructors' championship, Honda wins ahead of Yamaha and Suzuki.
250 cc class
- In the 250 cm³ class, the 20-year-old Italian Valentino Rossi won the title on Aprilia ahead of the Japanese Tōru Ukawa ( Honda ) and his compatriot Loris Capirossi (Honda). In the constructors' championship Aprilia prevailed against Honda and Yamaha .
125 cc class
- The 26-year-old Spaniard Emilio Alzamora won the world title in the eight-liter class on a Honda . Second went to Italian Marco Melandri , third to Japanese Masao Azuma , both on Honda. In the constructors' championship, Honda wins ahead of Aprilia and Derbi .
Superbike World Championship
- The Briton Carl Fogarty wins the drivers' championship on Ducati ahead of the American Colin Edwards ( Honda ) and the Australian Troy Corser (Ducati). For the 34-year-old, this is the fourth title win of his career in this class. In the constructors' championship, Ducati prevailed ahead of Honda and Kawasaki .

World Supersport Championship
- In the first ever Supersport World Championship, the 34-year-old Frenchman Stéphane Chambon on a Suzuki wins the drivers' championship ahead of the British Iain MacPherson ( Kawasaki ) and the Italian Piergiorgio Bontempi ( Yamaha ). In the constructors' championship, Yamaha prevailed against Suzuki and Kawasaki.
