Camilla Martin

Camilla Martin Nygaard (born March 23, 1974 in Aarhus ) is a former Danish badminton player .

Career

Between 1991 and 2003 she won the Danish championship in women's singles thirteen times. In addition, she was European champion in this discipline in 1992, 1996 and 1998. Her two greatest successes were winning the world champion title in women's singles in 1999 and the silver medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney . In the final at the Olympic Games, she was defeated by the Chinese Gong Zhichao . In 1998 she won the Hong Kong Open . In 1999 she was named Denmark's Sportswoman of the Year and has been a member of the Sportens Hall of Fame since 2013 .

Camilla Martin ended her athletic career in 2004 after being at the Summer Olympics in Athens was eliminated in the round of sixteen.

Camilla Martin is the daughter of the former soccer goalkeeper Bent Martin who played for Aarhus GF , Celtic Glasgow and Rapid Vienna in his career .

On May 25, 2005 she married the economist Lars Nygaard and changed her name to Camilla Martin Nygaard.
