The Crusaders (dt. The crusaders ; formerly Canterbury Crusaders called) are a rugby union -Mannschaft in the New Zealand city of Christchurch . The team plays in the international super rugby league. The team formed in 1996 only reached twelfth and last place in the then Super 12 in its first season. After that, however, it was able to improve significantly and established itself as the strongest New Zealand team.

So far, the Crusaders have won the championship ten times (1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2017, 2018, 2019). They were defeated four times in the final (2003, 2004, 2011, 2014). In 2002 the Crusaders had a perfect season ; they remained unbeaten in all preliminary round matches, in the semi-finals and in the final.
