The Tasman Rugby Union (TRU) is New Zealand's youngest provincial rugby union . It was created in 2006 from the merger of the Marlborough Rugby Union and Nelson Bays Rugby Union associations . The new association represents the Marlborough and Nelson regions of the South Island .
The association's selection team in the national championship ITM Cup , called Tasman Makos , plays its home games alternately at Lansdowne Park in Blenheim and Trafalgar Park in Nelson.
Tasman players are eligible to play in the international super rugby league and are called up by the Crusaders .

The predecessor association Marlborough Rugby Union owned the Ranfurly Shield in 1973 .
