Southland Rugby is the provincial rugby union for the Southland region on New Zealand's South Island . The association's selection team in the national championship ITM Cup plays its home games at the Rugby Park Stadium in Invercargill .
Southland has owned the Ranfurly Shield six times so far , in 1920, 1929, 1937, 1938, 1959 and 2009.
Southland players are eligible to play in the international super rugby league and are called up by the Highlanders .
